We are the strongest!

Looks like Great Britain is the leading nation so far!! We British men prove that we are the strongest and the smartest!

Unions outlawed!

What this society needs is working class politics. I would definitely create a workers union and revolt! too bad they're outlawed. We don't even have the vote! this is ridiculous

Friday Nights!

I can't even remember what happened last night, but i know i went out drinking. My friend Danny and I drank the whole bottle of gin last night and a bit of moonshine that was made in his basement. I'm also missing some money in my wallet..... maybe i went to bet on some cock fights.
Talk to you guys later! -phil

No government, help your self!

-1842
Did anyone notice that we have no government? All we have is Samuel Smiles' philosophy. He expects us to solve our own problems, self help. We have to follow the night watchman state. The government has no responsibility on us. At least they don't allow children under the age of 9 to work and limit the hours from the age of 10-16. There was also the mines act that took the women out of the mines, but we still have to work.

Women's Rights?

-1842
Women are out of the factories! And I hear the Cult of Domesticity started. Women have to stay home now. They have to nurture us men and make the house neat and orderly. They're suppose to boost our ego. Our being us men. Because the world is competitive, i guess the women have to keep our mentality up. Too bad i don't have a wife........

Stupid Children?

-1833
We have no system of education. I am a very uneducated ignorant person, this sucks... at least the children are getting the basics to education, but that's only under the age of 9. At least children rights have strengthened....... but i have no children..... anyways, now I only see them working during the day.

Living Standards

I have to say... the standards we live in are TERRIBLE. I'm spending more money for essential needs than earning. In other words, i make no money. I'm basically screwed. The real wages these days seem to be uneven and not increasing.

Working conditions..... SUCK

Can you believe it? I'm literally working my ass off for fifteen hours with only a 40 minute break throughout the day. My friend Danny got fired for being 4 minutes late! It's ridiculous. The children are also getting abused because they were to slow. Even the girls were abused, the scares can prove it. And the dust in the mines are so concentrated. I can't believe that they think we're happy workers. The children are not always smiling!

We live in a nasty place....

Has anyone realized the conditions we live in? They suck!
Talk about over crowding.... I'm questioning the theory if disease is spread by air...... because we really need some windows in here. My brother got sick last night and I'm just questioning why. It might be that smell of our "left overs" in the bathroom. We need to get rid of that.

great....... MORE INVENTIONS!

TRANSPORTATION!!!!
With the high grade iron, people are building new machines and new industries, especially for transportation. People have invented the steam boat and railroads! New jobs are available to build railways. These railways are creating cheap ways to transport goodies! That's the reason why they're so cheap now! =] better for us. Businesses are doing well, that's why you see so many new markets! Our economies doing fantastic! By the way, these trains can go up to 55 mph. It's like a rocket. These transportation creations also help in communication. Instead of yelling out words, boats and trains are transporting mail and news.

That's me on the train. Pretty handsome huh?

Steam Engines to a whole new level

These steam engines are running on coal, that's why coal production seems to be so grand these days. This is leading to a new development for stronger iron! A guy named Henry Cort figured out a way to make iron stronger! He invented the process of puddling! According to my research, coke, which is material derived from coal, was used to clean the impurities in crude iron. The outcome, high quality iron.
Below is a picture of a puddling furnace.

Getting out of the water?

Apparently in the 1760s some Scottish engineer, James Watt, built a steam engine that pumped water from mines three times as quickly. He also crated a rotary engine which would be used to drive machinery with steam power! We are getting out of the water people! Steam power can finally be used to spin and weave cotton. These steam engines are powered by coal, that's why we see all the factories moving away from the waters.

Cotton Gin!

-1793
The cotton gin is a very useful creation! made by Eli Whitney. It separates all the cotton fibers and seedpods.

POWER Loom!!!!!!

-1787
This might be the best one yet! Its the power loom! It was created by Edmund Cartwright. It makes textiles to be made much faster than if human hands made them! The only problem is that it's powered by water power. That is why you see all the factories are near moving waters.

Improved jenny?

-1769
Guess what guys! another invention. This time it's the water frame, invented by Richard Arkwright. Th water frame is a spinning frame when a water wheel powers it. it is called the water frame because it is a frame that spins which is powered by a water wheel. it is able to produce yarn to a designated thickness and twist the fibers together to make thread that is stronger than the spinning jenny!

Did James love Jenny? ;]

-1768

Another invention has been created yall! This time it's the spinning jenny, created by James Hargreaves. It made it possible to spin yarn in greater quantities. This is significant because there is a high demand for more yarn because of the flying shuttle. The spinning jenny is allowing workers to work 8 or more spools at once.

Flying Shuttle Anyone?

-1768
Wow new inventions are springing into action already! Textile production must be important now.
Inventions such as the flying shuttle makes it easier. John Kay invented the flying shuttle to make weaving on a loom even faster. This was possible because the shuttle which was carrying the weft moved through the warp threads faster and over a longer width of cloth. The weft is the thread that goes up and under the parallel warp threads, producing fabric.

Great Britain! Advances!

It looks like Great Britain is advancing in technology. It looks like we changed our agricultural practices which led to renitrogenating crops. This apparently keeps the soil fertile all the time, which got rid of the three field system. We now have more food and the population is increasing! But with this....... us British people need more cloths! and we need more cotton. Now we are seeking for new ways to increase the production, leading to more technology. People are calling this the Industrial Revolution. I hope it spreads through Europe!
Until later, cya later yall.
